Coach Henrique Calisto has had to allow several players to return home because of injuries. The national squad is now short of players.

Vu Phong has suffered an ankle injury; Dinh Phuoc and Hong Son have had problems with their knees and couldn’t practice. Calisto, thus, allowed them to leave.

However, the coach said he would not call up new players to replace these injured footballers because new ones wouldn’t have enough time to integrate into the team, which has already been training for several days.

The national squad currently has 27 members and it will be short-listed to 20 before going toIndonesia.

After the late match of the 18th round of V-League, six players of Binh Duong and one of Thanh Hoa club went to the HCM City-Thanh Long Sports Centre to drill with the national squad and two of them, Vu Phong and Dinh Phuoc, returned home because of injuries.

At present, two other players, Bao Khanh and Quang Thanh are injured. Calisto worries that he will lose even more players.

“I understand that my players have experienced a long season with V-League so injuries are unavoidable. But injuries prevent me from creating the best team. I hope they will quickly recover from injuries to take part in the next gatherings,” the coach said.
