After receiving quite a shock only 15 seconds into the game, Vinakansai Ninh Binh fought back to beat Quang Ninh Coal 3-1 in the National First Division Football Championship opener over the weekend.

Samson Kayole of Quang Ninh Coal made thousands of fans at Ninh Binh Stadium stand silent when he trailed a long pass from The Hieu to stun the hosts in the 15th second, marking the fastest goal in Viet Nam”s football history.

Ninh Binh launched more attacks on their visitors to even the score with newly-signed playmaker Nguyen Huu Thang.

Newly-promoted Ninh Binh, who signed a VND3 billion (US$189,000) record transfer deal with former national team member Nguyen Huu Thang, topped the table with a full 3-points-win on their home turf.

Thang, who played for Becamex Binh Duong, was greeted with applause from Ninh Binh fans.

In the 11th minute, Viet Anh lobbed a free kick to overcome the reach of Quang Ninh”s keeper Dang Binh, hitting the net at a high corner.

After the break, Ninh Binh continued to dominate the game with some good teamwork from duo Agnimou Baptile John and Fabriano.

John made the score 2-1 when he contrelled Fabriano”s return header with his chest before dealing a volley, zapping the visiting keeper”s chances just four minutes into the second half.

Luiz Antunes clinched a convincing win for Ninh Binh in the 68th minute, leading the championship when he converted a right cross from left winger Van Hung.

It was also an unlucky game for Quang Ninh, as strikers manage to just hit the bar and post three times in the second half.

The win boosted Ninh Binh”s confidence, as they leave for a match with T&T Ha Noi next weekend.

Can Tho beat Tien Giang 2-0 to place second, while Military Zone 5 edged Military Zone 4 3-2 to rank third.

Huda Hue were held to a 1-1 draw by newly-promoted T&T Ha Noi, who were coached by former national team winger Trieu Quang Ha.

Other matches played last Saturday saw V-League-relegated Dong Thap beat An Giang 1-0, Thanh Nghia Quang Ngai win against Military Zone 7 1-0 and Dong Nai grab a 0-0 draw against Tay Ninh.
