Qualifiers Group C: Nepal 1-5 Vietnam

Huynh Nhu starred with a brace as Vietnam cruised to a 5-1 win over Nepal in their Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024™ Asian Qualifiers Round 1 Group C opener on Wednesday.

Vietnam took a 3-0 lead going into the break before finishing the emphatic win in the second half  with the two teams to face off again on Saturday.

Pham Hai Yen netted the opening goal in the 11th minute as the Southeast Asian side took a firm grip on the match.
Captain Huynh Nhu made no mistake from the penalty spot in the 36th minute with Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy adding their third two minutes later.
Vietnam, who are preparing for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023, showed no signs of slowing down as Huynh Nhu struck again three minutes into the restart.
Nepal pulled one back through Sabitra Bhandari in the 79th minute effort, only for Vietnam to respond with their fifth goal courtesy of Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha a minute into added time.
The seven group winners from Round 1 will continue their quest in Round 2, which is expected to commence in October.
In the next round, they will be joined by the five highest seeded teams – DPR Korea, Japan, Australia, China PR and Korea Republic – and divided into three groups.
Four teams – the three group winners and the best-ranked runners-up – will then progress to Round 3 to play two pairs of home and away matches, slated for February 2024, with the eventual winners qualifying for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024.
