The Vietnamese under-20 football team failed to reach the knock out stage of the Asian under-20 finals in Singapore, after a 2-0 defeat to Saudi Arabia in their final group match on November 3.
The Vietnamese under-20 football team failed to reach the knock out stage of the Asian under-20 finals in Singapore, after a 2-0 defeat to Saudi Arabia in their final group match on November 3. 

Ho Chi Minh City Sports newspaer reported that the Vietnamese under-20s conceded the first goal after 13 minutes. Jufain Ali Albishi opened the scoring with a spot kick. Going 1-0 down so early, the Vietnamese side had to change their tactics from counterattack to attack and they troubled Saudi Arabia. Quang Tinh was denied by Saudi Arabia”s goalkeeper as his shot from outside the box was palmed away. Thanh Luong failed in his attempt after breaking into the box. Saudi Arabia sealed their 2-0 victory with a goal by Mohammeh Al Bishi in the stoppage time.

In another match, Iraq beat Malaysia 3-0.

The Vietnamese under-20s gained a total of three points after three games. Earlier, they had beaten Malaysia 2-1 and lost 3-1 to Iraq.

Two other teams from Southeast Asia, Thailand and Malaysia, also exited the tournament.

The tournament continues on November 6 with quarter-final matches: the Republic of Korea vs. Australia, China vs. Jordan, Japan vs. Saudi Arabia, and Iraq vs. the People”s Democratic Republic of Korea.
