Viet Nam Coal caused a minor-upset by beating HCM City 2-1 in their third match at the National Women”s Football Championship on June 26.

HCM City, who beat Ha Noi 1-0 and Ha Nam 2-1 in their first two matches, failed to convert two penalty chances in the 24th and 25th minute. However, veteran Tran Thi Kim Hong scored the opener in the 36th minute on a hot day at the Ha Dong Stadium.

Despite being a goal down, Viet Nam Coal came out on the offensive after the break, and in the 59th minute, Nguyen Thi Hai levelled the score from a long way out.

In the 80th minute, striker Le Thi Thuong pounced on a mistake by a city defender, scoring the winner for Viet Nam Coal.

Following their victory, Viet Nam Coal, on seven points, lead the ranking”s table ahead of Ha Tay, Ha Noi, HCM City, Ha Nam and Thai Nguyen.

The first matches, which end on July 5, are being played at Ha Dong and Son Tay stadiums.

The second half of the tournament will take place at Thai Binh Stadium and the Nam Dinh Sports Training Centre from July 10 to July 27.
