Vietnam team beat Laos 5-0, smooth start in the final qualifying round of Asian Cup 2027
On the evening of March 25, at Go Dau Stadium (Binh Duong), the Vietnam team won 5-0 against the Lao team in the opening match of Group F of the final qualifying round of the Asian Cup 2027.

With the goal of winning big to gain an advantage in the race for the top spot, coach Kim Sang-sik made five changes to the squad compared to the 2-1 win over Cambodia on March 19. Meanwhile, the Laos team continued to use a defense-first tactic.
The difference in class and home field advantage helped the Vietnamese team completely dominate. After a small mistake by Van Vi at the beginning of the match, the home team quickly controlled the game and did not give the opponent a chance to attack. The speed and penetrating ability of the full-back pair Tien Anh – Van Vi constantly made the Lao defense falter.
In the 11th minute, from a good combination on the right wing, Tien Anh broke free and crossed the ball inside. Defender Phetviengsy tried to clear the ball but accidentally created an opportunity for Chau Ngoc Quang to quickly tap the ball in to open the score for Vietnam.
Just four minutes later, Phetviengsy made another mistake with a bad pass. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Hai Long fired a long shot from 25m away but the ball went wide of the post. The Vietnam team increased the pressure by attacking from both wings, but the crosses were not really effective. Meanwhile, it was not until the 41st minute that Laos had their first shot but could not cause any trouble for goalkeeper Dinh Trieu.
In the 44th minute, the gap was doubled. From a corner kick on the left, Hai Long skillfully controlled the ball, unleashed a left-footed shot that hit the crossbar. The ball bounced right to Van Vi, and this defender easily headed the ball to increase the score to 2-0.
In order to maintain the pressure, coach Kim Sang-sik sent Quang Hai on to replace Chau Ngoc Quang in the 58th minute. Just five minutes later, the midfielder wearing the number 19 shirt assisted Hai Long to curl the ball from outside the penalty area. The ball lightly touched a defender of the Lao team before flying into the far corner, raising the score to 4-0.
In the last 30 minutes of the match, the Vietnamese team created many dangerous opportunities, but only one was successful. In the 67th minute, from Duy Manh’s cross, Tien Linh headed the ball into the wall for Hoang Duc to volley from 11m. However, goalkeeper Lokphathip made an excellent save. In the 84th minute, Quang Hai coordinated a beautiful pass with Hoang Duc, then volleyed with his left foot in the penalty area, sealing the 5-0 victory.
With this victory, the Vietnam team temporarily rose to the top of Group F. This is also the second 5-0 victory of coach Kim Sang-sik and his team, after the victory over Myanmar in the group stage of the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
In the second match of Group F taking place on June 10, the Vietnam team will visit Malaysia. This is a “pivotal” match for coach Kim Sang Sik and his team in the race for tickets to the 2027 Asian Cup.
