2026 National U21 Championship Finals – FPT Play Cup: Hanoi and The Cong Viettel advance to Semi-finals
The first two quarter-final matches of the 2026 National U21 Championship Finals – FPT Play Cup took place on the afternoon of July 20, with Hanoi and The Cong Viettel becoming the first two teams to book their places in the semi-finals.
21/07/2026 17:48:22In the quarter-final between Hanoi and Cong An Ha Noi, Hanoi made the brighter start, dominating possession and applying sustained pressure on their opponents’ goal. Cong An Ha Noi, meanwhile, adopted a disciplined defensive approach, looking to exploit opportunities on the counter-attack.
After creating several chances, Hanoi finally broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when Hong Phong calmly converted a penalty to give his side the lead. However, just before the interval, Khai Binh capitalised on an attacking move to equalise for Cong An Ha Noi, sending the teams into half-time level at 1-1.
After the restart, Hanoi continued to control the game, but Cong An Ha Noi struck again against the run of play in the 60th minute. Khai Binh completed his brace with a clinical finish following a swift counter-attack, putting his side 2-1 ahead.
Refusing to give in, Hanoi intensified their attacking pressure and were rewarded in the 70th minute when Xuan Toan found the net to restore parity at 2-2.
With neither side able to find a winner in normal time, the match was decided by a penalty shootout. Hanoi held their nerve to prevail 4-2 on penalties, securing their place in the semi-finals.
In the other quarter-final, The Cong Viettel and PVF-CAND produced a closely contested encounter, with both teams well acquainted with each other’s style of play. After a cautious opening 20 minutes, the decisive moment arrived in the 24th minute when Hoang Khanh finished clinically to score the only goal of the match and give The Cong Viettel the lead.
For the remainder of the match, PVF-CAND pushed more players forward in search of an equaliser but were unable to break down The Cong Viettel’s well-organised defence. The military side held on to their 1-0 advantage until the final whistle to secure a place in the semi-finals, while defending champions PVF-CAND were eliminated from the tournament.
