The COVID-19 pandemic affected Asia’s football activities. According to the announce of AFC today (Jun 08), Thailand withdraws to host the group, meanwhile Macau does not participate in AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022
With this decision of Macau, the competition in the West Zone has 19 teams and will be divided in 5 groups included 4 groups with 4 teams and 1 group with 3 teams instead of 5 groups 4 teams.
The hosts now included Taiwan, Indonesia, Mongolia, Singapore and another country.
Before AFC announced the plan, VFF also suggested to host a group to create the advantage for U23 Vietnam. However, due to the fast-changing of COVID-19 pandemic, this plan was impossible.
With the anticipation building up, the stage is set for the 42 Member Associations who will be competing from October 23 to 31, 2021 for the 15 positions up for grabs to join host Uzbekistan ahead of the fifth edition of the AFC U23 Asian Cup in 2022, which will be staged in the Central Zone for the first time in Asian football history.
