U23 Vietnam in the celebration of the AFF U23 Championship 2023’s championship
On the morning of August 27, U23 Vietnam backed to Vietnam after successfully defending the championship of the AFF U23 Championship. On the afternoon of the same day, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and the team were present in Hanoi, in the welcome of the leaders of the VFF and a big crowed of fans.

In recognition of the achievements of U23 Vietnam, the VFF solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the victory of U23 Vietnam in Southeast Asia. Attending, on behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Sports Adminstration, there were Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong – Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mrs. Le Thi Hoang Yen – Deputy Director of Vietnam Sports Adminstration; On behalf of the VFF, there were Vice Presidents Tran Anh Tu, Nguyen Xuan Vu, Nguyen Trung Kien; General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi, General Secretariat; Head coach of the national team Philippe Troussier and all members of the U23 Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, coach Hoang Anh Tuan emotionally expressed: “I am honored to stand here to share this humble joy with everyone. First of all, I would like to commend the players. They have fought, determined and brave to make a back to back of AFF U23 championship. Next, we thank the clubs, academies, football training centers for providing players for U23 Vietnam to attend the tournament.
For me personally, this is the first championship title in my career coaching at the national youth team level. I’m very excited and happy, but the most amazing thing is what the players achieve. The average age of U23 Vietnam is almost the lowest compared to other teams. But we are still champions. In 3 out of 4 matches, the title of Best Player belongs to the Vietnamese U23 player. Since the VFF has decided to rejuvenate the force, I am very happy. This success or championship is a sign that the initial success is related to the direction of the VFF”.
Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan continued: “I also have a few words to share with Mr. Philippe Troussier. I don’t think this is a duty, but an important responsibility. I will do my best so that Mr. Troussier has many players, many good choices to participate in the upcoming tournaments.”
On behalf of the leaders of the VFF, Vice President Tran Anh Tu emphasized: “As coach Hoang Anh Tuan shared, U23 Vietnam attended AFF U23 Championship with many young players. In which, 8 players are under 20 years old. National teams are creating conditions for young players to attend many tournaments. With participants from AFF U23, ASIAD or the Asian U23 Qualifier, coach Philippe Troussier will have more options for the national team in the future.
Mr. Tran Anh Tu emphasized: “VFF hopes that the U23 players in Vietnam are not satisfied with the title of the AFF U23 championship. The players have to be more active, make more efforts to improve. If we are satisfied, we will be stagnant. You have a whole future ahead of you.”
According to the plan, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his players will have a few days to rest before entering the new rotation. Some players will join the U23 Vietnam led by coach Philippe Troussier to prepare for the 2024 Asian U23 Qualifier – Group C will take place in Phu Tho from September 6 to September 12. Some other players will reunite with the Vietnam Olympic team scheduled for September 6 or September 8 to prepare for Asiad 19.
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan said: “The Asian U23 qualifiers and the Asiad are quite close together. The last match of the U23 Asian qualifier is on September 12, the first match of U23 Vietnam in Asiad is on September 19. Thus, we still have about 1 week of preparation. Most of the players attending the Asiad are on the list of U23 Vietnam participating in the Asian U23 qualifiers. Therefore, the preparation time does not need to be long because the players used to play together.
In terms of performance, last Asiad we used the best possible lineup. In this period, we use a much younger squad. The goal given by VFF is to selection, how to have the best players, so that the national team’s coach has a choice for the World Cup qualifiers.”
