U23 Vietnam faces Iraq and UAE at the International U23 Cup – Doha, Qatar 2023

The organisation committee of the U23 International Cup – Doha, Qatar 2023 conducted a draw for the matches in the group stage. Accordingly, the opponent of U23 Vietnam are U23 Iraq and UAE U23.

The U23 International Cup – Doha, Qatar 2023 has the participation of 10 U23 teams including: Vietnam, Thailand, Iraq, UAE, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and host Qatar.

Teams are divided into pairs to play 2 matches in the group stage, then will be ranked based on performance to place the pairs in the final round. In case teams are equal and have the same sub-stats, the fair-play principle will apply. The team that receives fewer yellow/red cards will be ranked first. If still unable to determine, the organisation committee will conduct a draw to determine the ranking between the teams by points.

Looking at the list above, it can be seen that this is a very quality tournament with the participation of strong teams from West Asia, East Asia and Southeast Asia. The variety of play styles of opponents from different regions of Asia in this tournament will obviously bring valuable experiences to coach Philippe Troussier’s team in the process of preparing for important goals in the future.

According to the plan, after finishing the second training phase (from March 8 to March 12), U23 Vietnam will move to the third training phase, taking place from March 13 to March 17. At this stage, the team’s force continues to be selected from the previous training session and may have some additional excellent faces that have just joined U20 Vietnam to compete in the 2023 AFC U20 Asian Cup.

At the end of the third training phase, coach Philiippe Troussier will choose a list of U23 Vietnam to attend the U23 International Cup – Doha, Qatar 2023. According to the schedule, U23 Vietnam will meet Iraq on March 22 and meet U23 UAE on March 25.

The team will depart for Qatar on March 18.
