The impressive season of SHB Da Nang, champions of the V.League 2 – 2023/24
In just one season playing in the V.League 2, SHB Da Nang has earned the right to compete in Vietnam’s top football tournament with an impressive performance that surpassed all other opponents.
After 21 rounds of the Gold Star V.League 2 – 2023/24, SHB Da Nang played 19 matches, earned 44 points with a goal difference of 28 (37 goals scored, 9 goals conceded), and clinched the championship at home, securing their return to V.League after just one season. Notably, under the guidance of coach Truong Viet Hoang, the team secured the title from round 19, after 17 matches with a record of 13 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss.
In the race for the sole promotion spot, SHB Da Nang surged ahead thanks to their consistent high performance. Meanwhile, competitors such as PVF-CAND, Truong Tuo Binh Phuoc, Phu Dong Ninh Binh, and Long An showed fluctuating form. Notably, SHB Da Nang consistently managed to gain points advantage in direct confrontations.
The championship of SHB Da Nang was forecasted well in advance, as club leadership demonstrated significant determination through decisive actions. They brought in Coach Truong Viet Hoang, who had previously won the V.League with Thể Công Viettel a few seasons back when the club was still named Viettel. The SHB Da Nang squad is a blend of experienced veterans and new quality players. Nguyen Minh Quang, Nguyen Huu Dung, and Le Van Hung quickly integrated into the team’s collective style of play. Meanwhile, seasoned players like Phan Van Long, Luong Duy Cuong, and Nguyen Phi Hoang seemed to unlock their potential playing alongside new teammates, enabling them to perform at their best.
The superior strength was evident as Coach Truong Viet Hoang built a collective playing style that did not rely on any single star in the lineup. This was showcased by 13 different players contributing goals. Phan Van Long (8 goals) and Nguyen Minh Quang (7 goals) led the attack. Midfielders and defenders such as Nguyen Phi Hoang, Dang Anh Tuan, Nguyen Huu Dung, Giang Tran Quach Tan, Luong Duy Cuong, and Le Van Hung also found the net, each playing their part in SHB Da Nang’s success.
Upon securing promotion, the leadership of SHB Da Nang and relevant city authorities have already taken proactive steps for the 2024/25 season and beyond. SHB Da Nang aims to finish in the top ranks of the V.League next season. Additionally, there will be enhanced logistical support with diversified funding sources. Furthermore, the club ambitiously plans to establish a youth football academy, collaborating with renowned international clubs as partners.
The leadership has set forth a sustainable vision. If realized, a season in the V.League 2 could be seen as a rejuvenation period for the team to come back strongly and reclaim the glory of their 2009-2012 era.
