U22 Vietnam achieved its goal of testing their squad against U22 Uzbekistan
On the afternoon of September 7th, the U22 Vietnam played their second match in the CFA Team China 2024 international friendly tournament. Despite facing the strong Uzbekistan team, coach Đinh Hồng Vinh confidently gave the maximum number of players a chance to take the field.
Before the match, heavy rain poured down due to the impact of Typhoon Yagi, causing the kickoff to be delayed. Fortunately, the rain didn’t last long, and the game was able to proceed after a 30-minute wait.
With a revamped lineup, including 8 changes from their opening match against the host China, the U22 Vietnam approached the game with great determination. The players who were given a chance on the field also made every effort to showcase their best abilities. However, a penalty awarded in the 17th minute, when the referee determined that a U22 Vietnam defender had fouled an opponent in the penalty area, shifted the course of the match. After the opening goal from the penalty spot, the U22 Uzbekistan team added another goal, making it 2-0, with a long-range shot by one of their players in the 25th minute.
In the second half, coach Đinh Hồng Vinh continued to experiment with the lineup, making 3 substitutions. The inclusion of players with international experience, such as Đình Bắc, Đức Việt, and Thanh Nhàn, helped the U22 Vietnam play more dynamically and create several opportunities. However, the forwards were unable to convert these chances into goals.
Explaining the decision to overhaul the lineup for this match, coach Đinh Hồng Vinh mentioned that most of the players in the U22 Vietnam have limited experience in domestic and international competitions. Therefore, providing all players with the opportunity to participate is crucial for building a squad with match experience for the U23 Vietnam team, in preparation for official tournaments in 2025. Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh also added that while experimenting with various lineups might not yield the best results in terms of performance, the coaching staff accepts this as the primary goal of the U22 team in this friendly tournament is to develop players for both the U23 team and the national team.
In the final match of the CFA Team China 2024 tournament, the U22 Vietnam will face the U22 Malaysia.
