Vietnam National Team departs for South Korea training camp ahead of Hyundai Cup 2026
On the morning of July 2, the Vietnam national team departed for Incheon, South Korea, to begin a training camp that will run until July 14, as part of the team’s final preparations for the Hyundai Cup 2026. The camp is aimed at fine-tuning the squad and completing the final stages of readiness ahead of the regional tournament.
Prior to the overseas training camp, head coach Kim Sang Sik and his players spent more than a week training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre from June 23 to July 1. During this period, the coaching staff focused on improving the squad’s physical conditioning while gradually building cohesion among the players, particularly those who had earned their first call-ups to the national team.
According to the training plan, the Vietnam national team will play three friendly matches during their stay in South Korea, facing progressively stronger opponents to assess the squad and further refine their tactical preparations.
The first match will take place on July 5 against Siheung FC, a club competing in K League 3. Three days later, on July 8, head coach Kim Sang Sik and his squad will face Yongin FC of K League 2. The final and most demanding test is scheduled for July 13 against Gangwon FC, a K League 1 side, before the team returns to Vietnam.
In addition to the players who are fully fit, several national team members currently recovering from injuries—including Do Duy Manh, Khuat Van Khang, and Le Ngoc Bao—have also travelled with the squad. Remaining with the national team during the training camp will allow the medical staff to closely monitor their rehabilitation while helping the players gradually regain full fitness and prepare for their return to action once medically cleared.
The training camp in South Korea has been identified by the coaching staff as a crucial phase in the Vietnam national team’s preparations for the ASEAN Cup 2026. Through intensive training sessions and three high-quality friendly matches, head coach Kim Sang Sik and his staff will continue to assess the squad, evaluate each player’s form, and fine-tune the team’s tactical setup as they aim to defend their Southeast Asian title.
Following the conclusion of the training camp on July 14, the Vietnam national team will return to Hanoi to prepare for an international friendly against Myanmar at Thai Nguyen Stadium on July 18. The match will serve as the team’s final rehearsal before beginning their ASEAN Cup 2026 title defence, which gets underway with an away fixture against Timor-Leste on July 24.
