Vietnam defeat Myanmar 4-0 to round off preparations for the ASEAN Championship 2026
Vietnam produced an impressive display to defeat Myanmar 4-0 in an international friendly at Thai Nguyen Stadium on the evening of July 18. The convincing victory and a number of encouraging performances gave head coach Kim Sang Sik and his players the perfect boost ahead of the ASEAN Championship 2026.

It was the first time the Vietnam national team had played in Thai Nguyen, where they were cheered on by a crowd of nearly 22,000 spectators.
Head coach Kim Sang Sik fielded a line-up featuring several highly anticipated players, including naturalised attacking trio Nguyễn Xuân Son, Đỗ Hoàng Hên, and Nguyễn Tài Lộc. Goalkeeper Le Giang Patrik also made his first start for the Vietnam national team.
The hosts made a bright start and opened the scoring in just the fifth minute. Đỗ Hoàng Hên delivered a cross from the right, Nguyễn Tài Lộc cleverly laid the ball off, and Nguyễn Xuân Son finished first time to give Vietnam an early 1-0 lead.
With the advantage secured, Vietnam continued to dominate possession and created a series of chances in front of Myanmar’s goal. In the 39th minute, Trương Tiến Anh delivered a free-kick from the left flank, and Phạm Xuân Mạnh rose highest to head home and double the hosts’ lead before the interval.
After the break, Vietnam maintained their attacking momentum. In the 58th minute, Đỗ Hoàng Hên got on the scoresheet with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area after being set up by Trương Tiến Anh, extending the lead to 3-0.
During the remainder of the match, head coach Kim Sang Sik introduced Đình Bắc, Hai Long, Văn Vĩ, Thành Long, and Gia Hưng as he continued to assess his squad ahead of the tournament.
In the 86th minute, Đình Bắc won a penalty after being brought down inside the box. The incident also resulted in Myanmar defender Kyaw Min Oo receiving a second yellow card and being sent off.
Đình Bắc stepped up to convert the penalty, sealing a comprehensive 4-0 victory for Vietnam.
At the other end of the pitch, Vietnam remained disciplined and well organised throughout the match. Goalkeeper Le Giang Patrik delivered a composed performance, making several assured interventions to keep a clean sheet on his first start for the national team.
The victory over Myanmar completed Kim Sang Sik’s side’s preparations for the ASEAN Championship 2026 on a positive note.
According to the tournament schedule, Vietnam will open their ASEAN Championship 2026 campaign against Timor-Leste on July 24 in Chonburi, Thailand. They will then take on Singapore, Indonesia, and Cambodia in the remaining group-stage matches.
