AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2023 Qualifier Round 1: Vietnam team has a good beginning

Hanoi: Vietnam kick started their AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024 Round 1 Qualifying campaign in style with a 5-0 win over Palestine in Group C on Saturday.

Vietnam took only nine minutes to break the deadlock through Do Thi Thuy Nga before strikes from Dau Nguyen Quynh Anh (35th) and Nguyen Thu Trang (38th) put the home side in a commanding position going into the break.
There was no respite for Palestine in the second half as they fell further behind with Nguyen Ngo Thao Nguyen striking Vietnam’s fourth in the 51st minute before Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh closed their account seven minutes later.
Palestine will aim to bounce back against Uzbekistan on Monday, while Vietnam will target to to confirm their spot in the next round when they meet the Central Asian side on April 30.
Guam 1-3 Philippines 
Philippines defeated Guam 3-1 in Group G of their AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024 Round 1 Qualifiers at the GFA National Training Center.
Nina Mathelus struck three times as Philippines sealed the early initiative heading into Matchday Two.
Mathelus, who plays for Scorpions Soccer Club of the United States, broke the deadlock in the 39th minute to give Philippines the lead heading into the break.
Philippines doubled their tally two minutes after the restart with Mathelus converting before Guam struck back through Melia Kahealani Kukahiko in the 71st minute.
Mathelus, however, completed her hat-trick five minutes later to seal the victory.
Guam will take on Lebanon on Monday, while Philippines face the West Asian side on Wednesday.
The eight group winners will advance to Round 2, scheduled for September 16 to 24.
They will be divided into two groups and the top two teams from each group will join the three highest seeded sides from the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 – defending champions Japan, DPR Korea and China PR – and hosts Indonesia in the Finals, set for April 7 to 20, 2024.
