AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has congratulated new President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Le Hung Dung and members of the board of directors on winning the elections last month and stressed on AFC’s support to the efforts of the VFF in setting up their plans and programmes aimed at developing the game in the ASEAN nation.


Shaikh Salman met Dung in the Malaysian capital in the presence of AFC General Secretary AFC Dato’ Alex Soosay, AFC Executive Committee member Dr Tran Quoc Tuan and VFF General Secretary Le Hoai Anh.

The AFC President asserted the confederation’s keenness to continue the communication with Member Associations and help them overcome their challenges, which is in line with the AFC’s strategy aimed to upgrade the output of the game in various countries of the continent.

Shaikh Salman expressed confidence in the ability of Vietnam to host the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup next month, based on their experience in hosting international tournaments. Shaikh Salman referred to Vietnam being one of four countries, which hosted the AFC Asian Cup in 2007, and its contributions in making this event a huge success.

Shaikh Salman also stated AFC’s plan to fight match-fixing and work with all its strength to end this menace in Asia. He said that AFC is currently working in coordination with the VFF to investigate the allegations on match manipulation in a game between Vissai Ninh Bina of Vietnam and Kelantan of Malaysia in the AFC Cup last month.

On his part, Dung thanked and appreciated Shaikh Salman for his keenness to support all national football federations in the continent and praised his significant role in the development process of the AFC during the last period.

The VFF President also briefed Shaikh Salman on the plans and programmes of the federation’s new board of directors in the next phase and their aspirations in the near future to boost the game in his country. Dung also made a presentation on Vietnam preparations to host the AFC Women’s Asian Cup next month.
