Asian Football Confederation (AFC) chairman Bim Hammam commended Viet Nam”s effort to combat problems in football in a meeting in Munich, Germany earlier this week.

In sync with the commencement of the World Cup today, the world football governing body (FIFA) opened its 56th congress with three Vietnamese participants led by National Football Federation (VFF) Chairman Nguyen Trong Hy on Monday.

At the meeting, Hammam also agreed with Vietnamese football leaders that it is necessary to eliminate obstacles that prevent the sport from developing.

He stressed that football problems are not isolated issues, as they happen in other countries as well.

Hammam said Viet Nam and Jordan are two nations making progress in the issue.

At the meeting, apart from activities to clarify national football, VFF”s Hy also informed Hammam of Viet Nam”s preparation for Asian Cup 2007, in which Viet Nam will host one group along with Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Hammam said since the report of AFC”s officials after their inspection early last month, he is satisfied with Viet Nam”s infrastructure and hopes to receive support from the country”s Government to successfully organise the championship.
