Champions Tien Giang started their defending campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Phu My Nam Dinh while 9-men Binh Dinh beat An Giang 2-0 on the second match day of the under-21 football tournament, sponsored by Thanh Nien newspaper.

Phu My Nam Dinh outplayed the defending champions. Danh Ngoc shot just wide after six minutes.

Twenty four minutes later, Danh Ngoc set up Ngoc Linh with a good cross to fire home the opener.

Phu My Nam Dinh continued to dominate after the break. Six minutes after the hour mark, Viet Dung squared two defenders of Tien Giang and released Manh DUng, who doubled the advantage.
