In an interview with the VFF website, head coach Mai Duc Chung said: “This is a very good group for us, because outside this tournament, it may difficult for us to invite the USA or Netherland women’s team to play with us. These are all top football teams in the world. Now the Vietnamese women’s team has the opportunity to play with them, so we are very happy and excited. Being able to compete like this, our players can improve more and more. Through this, the seniors set an example for the young, last few years, our women’s football had not really developed. There are examples for the young people to practice more actively, there will be more new good faces for the Vietnamese women’s football. About the teams competing for the play-offs: Portugal in Europe has a good physical base, I think they may come with us. We are weaker than Portugal and the teams above, the more strong teams, the more things to work hard. In 2023, we have many tournaments, at the beginning of the year we have national championship, then gathering to prepare for the Olympic qualifying round, continue to focus on playing the 32nd SEA Games. After the SEA Games, the Vietnamese women’s team will focus on preparing for the World Cup, the most important tournament. We plan to go to Europe for training to get acquainted with people like USA, Netherlands, Portugal or even Thailand. We have met Thailand many times, but the European teams, the Vietnamese women’s team still have few chances to meet. Therefore, training in Germany is quite useful. After the World Cup, we will attend ASIAD in China and then play the second round of Olympiuc, the task is quite busy in 2023. We will call more players, to select the best human resource during the training”.
Not surprised by the draw result, captain Huynh Nhu said: “For Nhu personally, regardless of any opponent, the Vietnamese women’s team will do our best. Nhu is currently playing for a club in Portugal. Recently, Nhu’s teammates did not know where Vietnam, so personally Nhu thought that the participation of the Vietnamese women’s team in the FIFA World Cup 2023 is not only an opportunity to compete and learn from the world’s top teams, but also an opportunity to bring Vietnam to the world’s friends through the World Cup playground.”
Along with some members of the Vietnamese women’s team watching the draw at the Australian Embassy in Hanoi on the morning of October 22, striker Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung was excited about the draw results, she said: “Come into the final round is the honor of the Vietnamese women’s football team in particular, and Vietnamese football in general; therefore, the members of the Vietnamese women’s team will be determined to compete for the Vietnamese spirit and to introduce to world fans about Vietnamese football.”
