Thể Công-Viettel receives a commendation from the Minister of National Defense and officially launches their new season
On September 12th, in Hanoi, Thể Công – Viettel FC celebrated its 70th anniversary, received a commendation from the Minister of National Defense, and officially launched their campaign for the 2024/25 season. Typhoon No. 3, with its severe consequences, has caused significant suffering and loss for the affected communities. Therefore, before the ceremony began, everyone observed a minute of silence to honor the victims who lost their lives. Thể Công – Viettel FC also donated 100 million VND to support the residents of the storm-affected provinces.
Thể Công – Viettel is the oldest and most successful football club in Vietnam. Established on September 23, 1954, by the directive of the then Director of the General Department of Politics, General Nguyễn Chí Thanh, the club has achieved numerous notable accomplishments throughout its storied history. The team, known for its military background, has won many prestigious titles, including the Northern A Division Championship (9 times), the National A Division Championship (4 times), and the National Championship (6 times), among other valuable awards. With 70 years of history, Thể Công is the most successful and oldest football club in Vietnamese football.
On this occasion, the Minister of National Defense, General Phan Văn Giang, awarded a commendation to Viettel Sports Company “for its outstanding achievements in training and supplying professional football players for national teams, successfully participating in national football competitions, and contributing to enhancing the quality and image of the ‘Uncle Ho’s Soldiers’ both domestically and on the international football stage.” Since 2018, Thể Công – Viettel has contributed between 30% and 35% of athletes to national teams each year. With 168 players participating in various national team levels over the past 6 years, Thể Công – Viettel has become a leading organization in the country for its contributions to the development of Vietnamese football.
Major General Tào Đức Thắng, Chairman and CEO of the Viettel Military Industry and Telecom Group, affirmed: “In response to the expectations and demands of the Ministry of National Defense, the fans, and Vietnamese football, Viettel commits to investing resources in football for the development of Vietnamese football, bringing positive values to society and the people. By focusing on people and using technology to drive breakthroughs, Viettel will uphold the spirit and values of the heroic military football team.”
In his speech at the team’s season launch, Thể Công – Viettel FC’s head coach Nguyễn Đức Thắng stated: “We have been working hard to prepare for the new season. Our squad of 29 players includes 9 new faces. The team has been rejuvenated, with the youngest player being Nguyễn Công Phương at 18 years old, one of the youngest in this season’s V.League. We will continue to emphasize an attractive, dynamic, and pioneering style of play. We aim to create a squad full of ambition and determination for the new season. Our goals are to finish in the top 3 and compete for the V.League 2024/25 title, as well as to reach the final of the National Cup this season.”
