The Vietnam U23 national team kicked off their first training session of the October 2025 training camp
On the afternoon of October 5, the Vietnam U23 national team held their first training session during the October 2025 FIFA Days, taking place in parallel with the senior national team’s camp. This is part of a long-term preparation plan initiated early by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), aiming toward two key objectives: the 33rd SEA Games and the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 Finals.
As head coach Kim Sang-sik is currently leading the senior national team in two matches against Nepal in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers, the training duties for the Vietnam U23 team have been entrusted to acting head coach Đinh Hồng Vinh.
According to the plan, Vietnam U23 will train at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center until October 6 before departing for a training camp in the UAE. During the camp, the team will play two high-quality friendly matches against Qatar U23 on October 9 and 13. These matches are part of the football development cooperation program between the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Qatar Football Association (QFA), launched in 2023, providing an important opportunity for Vietnam U23 to sharpen their tactics, refine their lineup, and gain valuable experience.
Following that, in November 2025, Vietnam U23 will participate in an international tournament in China, as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two football federations in August 2025. The tournament is expected to feature China U23, Vietnam U23, and two other strong Asian teams, promising to be a valuable preparation step ahead of the team’s key assignments later this year.
Speaking before the training session, acting head coach Đinh Hồng Vinh emphasized: “The two friendly matches against Qatar U23 in the upcoming training camp are extremely important, as they allow us to test and evaluate several potential players. The whole team is making every effort toward the goal of winning the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games and achieving a deep run at the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 Finals.”
Commenting on newcomer Vadim Nguyễn, acting head coach Đinh Hồng Vinh said: “We highly appreciate this player. The coaching staff maintains regular communication with head coach Kim Sang-sik to establish the best possible criteria for player selection.”
He also shared more about the internal coordination within the coaching team: “Whether it’s a short or long training camp, a friendly or a practice match, I always assign specific responsibilities to ensure smooth operations and help the staff adapt quickly.”
Regarding Viktor Lê’s late arrival to the training camp, acting head coach Đinh Hồng Vinh explained that the player had suffered a minor injury during his club match and also faced travel difficulties due to heavy rain and storms:
“This morning, Viktor arrived and was able to join the training session. The coaching staff understands his situation and will provide full support to help him prepare in the best possible way.”
