Vietnam futsal team win bronze medal at the 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship
Playing with focus, efficiency, and composure, the Vietnam futsal team secured a convincing 4–0 victory over Australia in the third-place playoff, thereby concluding their campaign at the 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship with the bronze medal.
Right from the kickoff, coach Diego Giustozzi’s players entered the game confidently and quickly applied pressure. In the 3rd minute, from a corner kick, Nhan Gia Hung finished quickly inside the box to open the scoring for Vietnam futsal team.
After the early goal, Vietnam continued to dominate the match. Chances were created by Cong Dai, Thinh Phat, and Nguyen Da Hai in succession, but Australia goalkeeper Feilich produced several outstanding saves. At the other end, Vietnam also showed defensive solidity, highlighted by a timely save from goalkeeper Pham Van Tu in the 17th minute.
Relentless pressure paid off again in the 18th minute. After a clever move from Nguyen Da Hai, Chau Doan Phat finished from close range to double the lead to 2–0 before the end of the first half.
In the second half, Vietnam futsal team continued to show efficiency in finishing. In the 21st minute, from a quick attacking move, Thinh Phat made a precise finish to extend the lead to 3–0.
In the remainder of the match, Vietnam controlled the game well and maintained high concentration in response to Australia’s attempts to use a power-play strategy. In the 39th minute, goalkeeper Pham Van Tu made his mark by scoring from his own half after Australia had deployed a power play and left their goal empty, sealing a 4–0 victory for Vietnam futsal team.
With this result, Vietnam secured the bronze medal at this year’s tournament. Amid a squad transition featuring many young players, this achievement is considered a positive outcome, reflecting the team’s effort and potential for future development under coach Diego Giustozzi.
