National team beat Mitsustar Haier Haiphong in friendly

    The national team, who are preparing for the forthcoming Agribank Cup, beat Mitsustar Haier Haiphong 2-1 in a friendly on October 18 with two goals by Duy Hoang and Van Thanh.

Ho Chi Minh City Sports newspaper reported coach Alfred Riedl lined up unused or rarely used substitutes at the recent Capital SH Bank Cup. Goalkeeper Viet Nam, defenders Van Nhien, Dinh Luat, Duy Hoang and Minh Thien; midfielders A Huynh, Duc Duong, Minh Chuyen and Vu Phong and forwards Van Thanh and Duoc Em had their opportunities to start the game.

Vu Phong continued to be a concern on the left flank while Duoc Em had not yet to find a link up with Van Thanh.

As a result, the national side had to wait until final minutes of the first half to go ahead. Centreback Duy Hoang fired home from a close range after Van Nhien”s corner.

After the break, Tan Tai went in for Vu Phong and A Huynh played in the left. First choice goalkeeper Quang Huy had a warm up half as he replaced Viet Nam. In a one-sided game, Van Thanh gave an excellent run, ghosting past five of his teammates at Mitsustar Haier Haiphong before finding the net.

Young player Duy Khanh scored a goal for Mitsustar Haier Haiphong.

The national team will play Midako Nam Dinh in another friendly on October 20.
