SEA Games 30: Vietnam, Thailand advance to women’s final
Manila: Vietnam and Thailand set up the expected 2019 SEA Games women’s football final after seeing off their semi-final opponents on Thursday.
Defending champions Vietnam struck twice in the second half to subdue host nation Philippines 2-0 while Thailand edged Myanmar 1-0 in their semi-final.
It will be a second meeting between the two teams in the 2019 Sea Games, having settled for a 1-1 draw in their Group B encounter on November 26.
Vietnam will head into the final with confidence, having denied Thailand the 2019 AFF Women’s Championship title in August.
After a tight first half, Vietnam took the lead through Tha Thi Thao in the 60th minute and Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung dashed Philippines’ hopes five minutes from time.
Thailand, denied the 2017 gold medal on goal difference, will be seeking to regain their title.
They had to wait till the 78th minute to take the lead against a resilient Myanmar side, with Orapin Waenngoen’s strike proving enough for Thailand to seal their place in Sunday’s final.
Myanmar will play Philippines for the bronze.
