The second invitational Southeast Asian Women”s Football Championship is to take place in Ho Chi Minh City from May 29 June 2 with participation of four of the region”s strongest teams.

The second invitational Southeast Asian Women”s Football Championship is to take place in Ho Chi Minh City from May 29 June 2 with participation of four of the region”s strongest teams.

Thailand, Myanmar, Taiwan, and host Vietnam will play a round robin format with the last team standing with the most points to be declared champion.

Undisputed SEA Games and defending regional champion Vietnam, who will play its opener against Taiwan at 4pm May 29 will field star players such as Kim Chi, Mai Lan, Van Thi Thanh, and Tuyet Mai, the backbone of Vietnam”s most merited football side in the last 5 years.

In 2005 at SEA Games 23 in the Philippines, the Vietnamese women”s football team took home the championship title after defeating Myanmar 1-0 in the final game on December 3.

Vietnam”s national women”s team also claimed the SEA Games 22 title on home turf at My Dinh stadium in Hanoi, taking out a tough Myanmar team in the final.

Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) and Vietnam Import-Export Commercial Joint-Stock Bank (Eximbank) are two main sponsors of the tournament.
