Vietnam hammered Malaysia 2-0 at Thong Nhat stadium, Ho Chi Minh City in their first match of the AFF U-19 football championship which opened yesterday.

In the first half, Vietnam dominated the game, creating a lot of chances to score but could not convert any of them into goal. Malaysian goalkeeper Shaari played well, blocking Minh Tuan’s shot in the 20th minute, as well as saving Hai Huy’s powerful fire from long range in the 28th  minute. In the 30th minute, Van Thanh shot wide of the left post before Van Quyet missed the chance to net six minutes later.

Two minutes into the second half, Dinh Bao scored the opener with his super header from Quoc Phuong’s free kick.

After the goal, the match became more attractive. In the 60th minute, Van Quyet doubled the score for Vietnam when he received the cross from his teammate and danced round one Malaysian defender to fire a wonderful goal.

Malaysia tried their best to come back from two down but they could not breach Vietnam’s solid defence and conceded a 2-0 loss to Vietnam.

With the first victory over Malaysia, coach Hoang Buu’s young footballers have satisfied all Vietnamese fans.
