Three Vietnamese Players Named in ASEAN All-Stars Squad to Face Manchester United
Three Vietnamese national team players — Nguyễn Hoàng Đức (Phù Đổng Ninh Bình), Nguyễn Quang Hải (Công An Hà Nội), and Đỗ Duy Mạnh (Hà Nội FC) — have officially been selected by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) to join the ASEAN All-Stars squad. This team will take part in a special friendly match against Manchester United, scheduled for May 28, 2025, at Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This match is part of the Maybank Challenge Cup and aims to raise funds in support of Al-Sultan Abdullah (YASA), a reputable charitable organization in Malaysia. The event is also seen as a celebration of Southeast Asian football talent and a testament to the role of football as a bridge for spreading humanitarian values.
According to information from the AFF, the three Vietnamese players were selected based on their outstanding form, professionalism, and impressive fighting spirit in recent times. Nguyễn Hoàng Đức has stood out in midfield with his ability to control the game and deliver creative passes. Nguyễn Quang Hải continues to showcase his class through skillful plays and extensive international experience. Meanwhile, Đỗ Duy Mạnh has demonstrated leadership in defense, with a solid and passionate style of play.
Earlier, the AFF officially announced the selection of Kim Sang-sik, head coach of the Vietnam national team, to lead the ASEAN All-Stars against Manchester United. According to the AFF, after guiding the Vietnam national team to an undefeated victory and winning the ASEAN Cup 2024, Coach Kim Sang-sik’s appointment as the head coach of the ASEAN All-Stars is a testament to his excellence and the trust he has earned within the regional football community.
Speaking about the event, Coach Kim Sang-sik emphasized: “It is a great honor to lead the best players from across ASEAN countries in such an important match. We not only represent our own nations, but we are also showing the world the pride, spirit, and strength of our region.”
The list of players for the ASEAN All-Stars team, consisting of top players selected from all 12 AFF Member Associations, will be announced in the coming days. The squad will reflect the diversity and collective strength of Southeast Asian football.
