DPR Korea’s defence of their AFC U19 Women’s Championship title will begin against Thailand after the two were pooled together at the 2009 tournament draw on Friday.

 

 

The draw, which took place at AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, also saw the back-to-back FIFA U20Women’s World Cup finalists placed in Group A along with neighbours KoreaRepublic and Vietnam.

 

Japan, who lost 1-0 in the 2007 final as the North Koreans successfully defended their title, were drawn in Group B where they will face China, Australia and Chinese Taipei, runners-up to the Japanese in the inaugural AFC U19 Women’s Championship in 2002.

 

The 2009 tournament will take place from August 1 to 12 with the venue to be confirmed at the AFC’s Women’s Committee meeting on Tuesday.

 

AFC U19 Women’s Championship draw:

 

Group A – DPR Korea, KoreaRepublic, Vietnam, Thailand.

Group B – Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, Australia.
