Despite taking the lead, the U22 Vietnam could not preserve the result when the host U22 China equalized 1-1. With this result, the U22 Vietnam closed the CFA Team China 2025 International U22 Tournament in third place.
The final match saw an exciting confrontation between U22 Vietnam and U22 China. With the chance to win the championship, coach Dinh Hong Vinh’s players entered the match with determination and showed confidence in their coordination in the midfield. Meanwhile, U22 China showed their ability to control the ball more. They were also the team that created the first dangerous opportunity when Kuai Jiwen took a beautiful long-range shot, hitting the crossbar of Cao Van Binh’s goal. Despite attacking a lot but not scoring, U22 China soon had to pay the price. In the 31st minute, receiving an accurate pass from Le Viktor, Quoc Viet controlled the ball neatly before finishing with a classy one-touch shot, opening the score for U22 Vietnam. The goal helped the white team play even more confidently. Before the first half ended, Quoc Viet created a few more notable plays, but no more goals were scored.
In the second half, U22 China increased the pressure and pushed up the attack formation. In the 49th minute, the home team had another dangerous opportunity, but Cao Van Binh continued to play excellently. In the 69th minute, U22 China was awarded a penalty, and Aisikaer successfully converted it, equalizing the score 1-1. However, just a few minutes later, Zhang Yixuan received a second yellow card and was sent off, giving U22 Vietnam an advantage over the other team. Seeing the opportunity, coach Dinh Hong Vinh’s players rushed forward to attack. Xuan Bac created a dangerous situation with a classy corner kick, but unfortunately, the ball only hit the crossbar. With a 1-1 draw, the U22 Vietnam ended the tournament unbeaten, but finished third overall at CFA Team China 2025 after U22 Korea; goalkeeper Cao Van Binh received the award for best goalkeeper of the tournament.
In the previous match, the young Korean team won 3-1 against U22 Uzbekistan.
Evaluating the result of the match with U22 China, coach Dinh Hong Vinh said that the U22 Vietnam team had a good match: “We proactively deployed our playing style, organized a tight defense and performed well in transition situations. The players followed the tactics, kept a reasonable formation distance and created many dangerous opportunities. Overall, we deserved a better result. However, the important thing is that the players showed progress and learned valuable lessons from this match…”.
“This tournament helps the players gain more international competition experience, especially how to deal with opponents with different physiques and playing styles. The players have improved their ability to control the match, maintain concentration and enhance coordination in the tactical system. These experiences will be very important in the preparation for the upcoming U23 Asian Qualifiers and SEA Games. This trip is a useful experience for U22 Vietnam. We have the opportunity to test the squad, evaluate the players’ abilities and hone tactics in real competition conditions. The players have shown progress through each match, especially in today’s match, when they showed confidence and good control of the game. This will be an important premise for the whole team to continue to develop and aim for big goals ahead,” said coach Dinh Hong Vinh.
