U22 Vietnam has gathered for their first training camp of 2025, with many new players being called up to join the squad
As part of the preparation plan for the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers and SEA Games 33, U22 Vietnam will have their first training camp of 2025 during the FIFA Days in March, with a squad of 27 players called up.
This training camp of U22 Vietnam is a continuation of the program implemented by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) since 2023/2024, aiming to create favorable conditions for the coaching staff to build the most competitive squad for the team. The focus is on two key objectives: the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers in September 2025 and SEA Games 33 in December 2025. Therefore, it can be observed that players who have been highly evaluated in previous training camps continue to dominate the squad. Notable returns include players such as Hồ Văn Cường (SLNA), Nguyễn Văn Trường (Hà Nội), Nguyễn Bảo Long (PVF-CAND), Nguyễn Mạnh Hưng (Thể Công Viettel), Nguyễn Nhật Minh (Hải Phòng), and Nguyễn An Khánh (Fk Třinec).
In addition, many new faces have been given the opportunity to prove themselves, including several young players who have developed from the U19/20 generation, such as Nguyễn Quang Vinh (SLNA) and Nguyễn Lê Phát (PVF-CAND). Notably, another overseas Vietnamese player has joined the national team list this time: midfielder Le Viktor. Born in 2003 in Moscow, Russia, Le Viktor has a Vietnamese father and a Russian mother. According to his profile, Le Viktor developed through the youth academy of CSKA Moscow and specializes in playing as an attacking midfielder. He previously played for Bình Định FC in the 2023 season before transferring to Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh FC for the 2024/25 V.League 1 season.
According to the plan, U22 Vietnam will reconvene on March 10 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. As this coincides with the March 2025 FIFA Days training camp for the Vietnam national team, the position of Acting Head Coach for the U22 team will continue to be entrusted to Assistant Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh by Head Coach Kim Sang Sik. Alongside Acting Head Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh in the coaching staff will be Assistant Coach Trịnh Duy Quang, Goalkeeper Coach Trần Minh Quang, and Fitness Coach Nguyễn Tăng Tuấn.
In this training camp, U22 Vietnam will participate in the CFA Team China 2025 International Football Tournament, organized by the China Football Association, from March 20 to March 25 in Jiangsu. The tournament will feature four U22 teams: Vietnam, Uzbekistan, South Korea, and the host nation, China.
This is the second consecutive time U22 Vietnam has been invited to participate in this high-quality tournament. The previous edition took place in September 2024, when the U22 Vietnam, under the leadership of Acting Head Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh, had three very useful “testing” matches, against U22 China, U22 Uzbekistan, and U22 Malaysia.
