U23 Vietnam team warmed up for the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2024 with 2 friendly matches in Tajikistan
As part of the preparation plan for the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2024, the U23 Vietnam team will have 2 friendly matches with the U23 Tajikistan team during the gathering next March.
Accordingly, the U23 Vietnam will reunite starting March 12 with about 30 players, at the same time the Vietnam team will gather to prepare for two matches against Indonesia in the Qualifying 2nd Round World Cup 2026. The team will practice at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center until March 16, when they will leave for Tajikistan to play 2 friendly matches with the host country’s U23 team. The first match is on March 20 and the second match is on March 23.
These are two matches that are meant to “warm up” the U23 Vietnam towards the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2024 which will take place from April 15 to May 3 in Qatar, where the U23 Vietnam team will face the challenge from Uzbekistan, Kuwait, and Malaysia in Group D. Meanwhile, inviting the U23 Vietnam team to play a friendly match is also very meaningful for Tajikistan when they have to face Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Thailand is in Group C.
Because Head coach Philippe Troussier is busy leading the Vietnam A team to play two matches against Indonesia in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers at the same time (the first leg on March 21 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium and the second leg on March 26 at the My Dinh Stadium), so assistant coach Moulay Lahsen will take on the position of Acting Head Coach of the U23 Vietnam team playing two friendly matches with U23 Tajikistan.
Mr. Moulay Lahsen is Moroccan and has a close relationship with coach Philippe Troussier, having worked with the French strategist since 2018. This 56-year-old assistant has both AFC and FIFA degrees. In the past, he worked with Rudi Garcia – the former coach of AS Roma, Lyon, and the former coach of Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr Club. When coach Philippe Troussier took over as head coach of the Vietnam team, assistant Moulay Lahsen received a lot of trust from the coaching staff.
Currently, the Vietnam Football Federation and the Tajikistan Football Federation are discussing in more detail the plan to organize two friendly matches between the Vietnam U23 team and the Tajikistan U23 team. Information about the stadium, competition time, live broadcast plan, and other related content will be updated shortly.
