U23 Vietnam had a dream start against U23 Thailand. Right at the 20th second, after the situation where 2 U23 Vietnam’s strikers put high pressure on the Thai defender to fumble in breaking the ball, left-back Phan Tuan Tai made a shot from over 20 yards out with the ball deflecting off Khemdee’s shoulder and over an outstretched Kiadtiphon Udom.

After getting the lead, U23 Vietnam actively slowed down. The 4-3-3 is slightly modified to become 4-1-4-1 and shrinks to the median. This makes Thailand U23, although holding the ball, has many difficulties in deploying the familiar short-distance passes.

They were forced to pass the ball a lot to the vertical and make the ball go into the back of the defense. However, the central defender duo including Bui Hoang Viet Anh and Nham Manh Dung did a good job of preventing the attacks of U23 Thailand.

When Thailand U23 was at a stalemate in equalizing, in the 34th minute, goalkeeper Van Toan’s unfortunate mistake caused U23 Vietnam to concede a goal. Benjamin Davies’ shot outside the penalty area was enough to make goalkeeper Van Toan unable to catch the ball. He hurried to find where the ball was, but it was too late when the ball crossed the line earlier. After this situation, Van Toan was also forced to leave the field due to a dislocated finger and gave up his position to Quan Van Chuan.

In the second half, U23 Vietnam tried to push up the squad to find a goal against Thailand U23. Meanwhile, Thailand U23 focused on exploiting long-range shots in the hope of recreating the wrong scenario of Vietnam U23 goalkeeper.

However, U23 Thailand miscalculated, when Quan Van Chuan played calmly. If Van Chuan is calm and steady in the goal, Phan Tuan Tai plays an outstanding performance on the left wing. The full-back of U23 Vietnam not only scored a quick goal in the 20th second, but also created a masterpiece for Van Tung.

In the 73rd minute, with Phan turning provider with a lob to the edge of the box, with substitute Nguyen Van Tung’s volley sailing into the bottom left corner of the net.

Thinking that U23 Vietnam had won the 4th consecutive victory against U23 Thailand in 2022, suddenly in the second minute of extra time, Suphanat had a header to the net of U23 Vietnam.

The final score was 2-2, U23 Vietnam divided the score U23 Thailand. The two teams shared 2nd and 3rd places after U23 Korea.
