Hosts PISICO Binh Dinh swapped their position with visiting ACB.HN after trouncing the visitors 4-1 while Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Dong Tam Long An are back to the race for the national championship/V-League title after round 16.

Hosts PISICO Binh Dinh swapped their position with visiting ACB.HN after trouncing the visitors 4-1 while Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Dong Tam Long An are back to the race for the national championship/V-League title after round 16.

Four goals by Khoa Thanh, Sorayoot and Van Hien after 60 minutes helped PISICO Binh Dinh gained a shock win over ACB.HN, who won all the prizes of the V-League in April at home.

Launching attack after attack, the hosts had to wait until the 30th minute to open the scoring. Khoa Thanh broke the offside trap to score. Two minutes later, Sorayoot extended the lead after a through-ball from Thanh Loi. In the second half, the hosts scored two more goals by Sorayoot in the 48th and Van Hien in the 60th minutes, respectively. The visitors” consolation goal was scored by Mbabazi in the 80th minute.

PISICO Binh Dinh retained their second spot in the table and narrowing their gap with Da Nang to two points only.

Elsewhere in Pleiku, a hat-trick by Minh Nghia helped twice-champions Hoang Anh Gia Lai beat PJICO Song Lam Nghe An 3-0 and be back to the race for the V-League title. The home side”s victory had been forecast as their visitors were struggling with injuries and suspension. However, the hosts had to wait until the second half to celebrate their victory. The first half was tight with fights for the ball in the centre of the field.

After the break, player coach Kiatisuk made a bold decision, replacing Kesley Alves and Van Dan with Minh Nghia and Tawan, respectively. The hosts scored their opener after an hour mark. In the 69th minute, Sakda made a through-ball to Kiatisuk, who let the ball through to Minh Nghia to score, leaving PJICO Song Lam Nghe An”s defenders flat-footed. Four minutes later, Minh Nghia made it 2-0. Tawan made a neat pass to Chu Ngoc Canh on the right flank and Ngoc Canh”s cross was headed in by Minh Nghia.

In the 76th minute, Minh Nghia completed his hat-trick, sealing a 3-0 victory for the hosts, giving around 10,000 spectators in Pleiku an opportunity to celebrate.

The victory put Hoang Anh Gia Lai on fourth place with 22 points, just four points behind leaders Da Nang, who were held to a 1-1 draw by scandal-hit Southern Steel Saigon Port at home in an early match on May 13.

Southern Steel Saigon Port, whose goalkeeper coach Van Phung and players Ho Van Loi and Nguyen Phuc Nguyen Chuong were charged with bribe taking, had been predicted to have a difficult visit to Da Nang. In their home match, Southern Steel Saigon Port suffered a 4-1 crushing defeat. However, a leveller by Minh Chuyen helped the visitors surprisingly leave Da Nang with one point.

In fact, the hosts were better, dominating the game. However, due to the absence of Thanh Thong and Almeida, the hosts” attacks were less dangerous.

It was the visitors to have the first opportunity of the match as Dinh Cuong tested goalkeeper Duc Cuong right in the penalty box but the home side goalkeeper was the winner.

After 15 minutes, Samuel broke the deadlock for the host, finishing off Hong Minh”s millimetre precise cross. After the goal, Da Nang created many opportunities in the first half by wingers Quang Tuan, Thanh Phuc and playmaker Hong Minh. In the 39th minute, Hong Minh”s cross defeated all visiting defenders but was saved by goalkeeper Hoang Duy. Three minutes from half-time, Samuel regained possession in the box but his shot was cleared off line by Ngoc Duc.

In the second half, Da Nang continued to dominate the game and created some more chances. Goalkeeper Hoang Duy had to work hard to deny Luis da Silva before Hong Minh”s powerful strike went centimetres wide in the 57th minute.

The visitors became more dangerous when Yang Hyun Jung was brought in to replace Helio. The Korean player played one-two with Minh Chuyen to set up the Vietnamese player to score an equaliser.

Da Nang did not share points and brought in veteran Huynh Duc and Van Hung. The hosts launched attack after attack onto Southern Steel Saigon Port”s defence. In the 78th minute, Thanh Phuc wasted a good chance as his shot went wide. Four minutes from time, da Silva”s finish lacked power to find the net.

Being held, Da Nang continue to stay on top of the table but the gap between them and PISICO Binh Dinh has been cut to two points.

In another early match, defending champions Dong Tam Long An beat dark horses Khatoco Khanh Hoa 3-1 to join the top five for the first time in the season for just one day. The home side”s attacks faced a deadlock before Khatoco Khanh Hoa”s solid defence. However, Minh Phuong helped the home side go in front after 36 minutes. The captain of the Vietnamese national team chested down the ball before finding the net.

Eleven minutes into the second half, the ball fell into Antonio Rodrigues after an attempt to clear goalkeeper Santos”s long ball by a visiting defender and the striker did not miss the chance to extend the lead.

In the 64th minute, Khatoco Khanh Hoa were given a spot kick after Phi Thuong”s handball. Felix made no mistakes in converting, pulling one goal back. Goalkeeper Santos got his name in the scoresheet after scoring from a freekick outside the penalty box, sealing a 3-1 victory for the hosts. The victory put Dong Tam Long An in fourth place in the table for one day, before Hoang Anh Gia Lai occupied it. However, Dong Tam Long An are now just four points behind leaders Da Nang.

In Haiphong, Ngọc Linh”s 78th minute winner helped Midako Nam Dinh beat their hosts Mitsustar Haier Haiphong 1-0. Midako Nam Dinh now have a total of 22 points.

In Hanoi, two goals in two finals minutes helped bottomed Pomina Steel Tien Giang shared points with their hosts Hoa Phat Hanoi.

Van Vinh, Williams Dos Santos and Da Silva helped the hosts dominate the game. The trio troubled the visiting defence. In the 40th minute, Van Vinh set up Da Silva to open the scoring.

After the break, Hoa Phat Hanoi, whose morale was very good after a 3-1 victory in Quy Nhon over PISICO Binh Dinh one week ago, continued to outplay their visitors. In the 60th minute, Da Silva finished Williams”s cross but was denied by the visiting goalkeeper but Hong Viet was present to pull the deflected ball to the net.

However, upset occurred as Pomina Steel Tien Giang scored in two minutes to level the score. In the 86th minute, Bao Tam pulled back one goal before Ferreira equalised one minute later.

After the draw, Pomina Steel Tien Giang continued to stay at bottom but it was a good start for newly-signed manager Tran Kim Hang, who was appointed to help Pomina Steel Tien Giang survive in the V-League.
