VAR referee course 2 has completed the first step of theoretical training
10 VAR referees and 3 VAR assistant referees, along with 10 technicians of the 2nd VAR class organized by VPF Company in conjunction with the VFF Arbitration Committee, have completed the first step and prepared the practicing period under the supervision of FIFA experts.
Along with preparing professionally and organizing for the new season. VPF Company and the VFF Arbitration Committee also combined to prepare a force of VAR’s referees and assistant referees as well as technicians to ensure the human resources in operating VAR in the 2023/24 national professional football season.
Accordingly, right from the referee training phase before the new season, 10 referees, 3 assistant referees and 10 selected technicians have become familiar with modern and new referee support technology in Vietnam. Immediately after the basic familiarization steps, the second VAR class entered theoretical lessons.
Regarding the training plan for the second VAR referee class, after round 3 of the National Championship, the referees, assistant referees and technicians will enter focused training with simulation exercises (phase 2 of 3 training period according to FIFA standards) from November 13 to 21, 2023. FIFA experts are expected to be present from the first day of this period and directly participate in the training process.
The entire intensive training process (phases 2 and 3) will be held in between breaks of the national championship and is expected to be completed before the 2 VAR cars sponsored by FIFA return to Vietnam.
Training a qualified force to meet FIFA’s requirements to be able to operate VAR is part of VPF Company’s plan to apply VAR in all matches of Night Wolf V.League 2023/2024. Right from the early stages of VAR implementation, the issue of people and VAR operating forces has been considered the most important by VPF Company as well as the VFF Arbitration Committee, in addition to the deployment of technical infrastructure.
Currently, 2 VAR vehicles mobilized from socialized sources, with sponsorship from Hoanh Son Group, are operating in the area from Ha Tinh to the North. The selection of this geographical area is based on the distribution of the number of teams in Night Wolf V.League 1 (8 teams). After having 2 more VAR vehicles sponsored by FIFA, the Organizing Committee will arrange additional operating areas in the South and Central Highlands, ensuring the mobility factor meets the competition schedule, moving forward to apply all 7 match in each round.
In round 1 of Night Wolf V.League 1 – 2023, there are 4 matches where VAR is applied in each round. This is the maximum number recommended by FIFA. Depending on the nature of the matches in each round, the tournament organizers calculate force assignments, discuss with FIFA and propose matches to apply VAR. Only when approved can VAR be applied to the match. There will be VAR rounds that only apply in 2 or 3 matches according to FIFA recommendations. This completely depends on the analysis of the nature of the match and the appropriate conditions applied. VAR technology appeared for the first time in Vietnam, and is in the early stages of operation under FIFA’s 3-year supervision. All relevant departments are trying to keep pace and master the technology. VAR technology is a support tool for referees, the most important thing is to continue training, cultivating and improving the quality of referees.
