Following a convincing victory in their opening match, head coach Kim Sang Sik proactively adjusted the training program to ensure physical fitness and overall balance for the entire squad. The players were divided into two groups. Those who played more than 60 minutes in the match against U23 Jordan mainly focused on light recovery exercises to help their bodies quickly regenerate energy. The remaining players continued to maintain training intensity, combining physical conditioning with additional tactical work as required by the coaching staff.

Speaking to the media ahead of the training session, midfielder Nguyen Thai Son candidly reflected on his performance in the previous match. “In yesterday’s game, I honestly felt that I didn’t show my full potential, and there were moments when I was a bit complacent. I will try to improve and do better in the upcoming matches,” Thai Son shared.

Talking about the role of the midfield when facing opponents with superior physicality and strength at the continental level, the 2003-born midfielder said that the coaching staff had given very specific instructions. “The head coach and assistants reminded the midfielders to play the ball quickly, keep it simple, and look forward more, because Asian opponents are often taller and stronger. If we slow the tempo, it will be very difficult to control the game,” Thai Son explained.

Comparing the differences between opponents in Southeast Asia and those on the continental stage, Thai Son acknowledged that the level of competition is significantly higher. “Compared to the SEA Games, opponents at the AFC U23 Asian Cup are much stronger in terms of physicality, fitness, and speed. Therefore, the whole team must strive to perform at more than 100 percent in every match,” he emphasized.

When asked about how Vietnam U23 can remain focused and avoid complacency after their opening victory, Thai Son said the team views that result as motivation rather than a destination. “The recent win will serve as motivation for the whole team to work even harder in the next match. We will stay fully focused and aim to perform well and achieve positive results in the upcoming games,” affirmed the Dong A Thanh Hoa midfielder.
