Winning against SLNA on penalties, PVF-CAND U.21 won the 2023 national U.21 tournament
At Thanh Hoa Stadium on the afternoon of October 1, U.21 PVF-CAND, despite conceded a goal first, equalized 1-1 and won on penalties to be crowned champions.
Right after the starting whistle, U.21 SLNA flooded the team to attack. SLNA completely controlled the game for most of the first half. U.21 SLNA continuously caused chaos in the PVF-CAND penalty area. The first notable situation of the match came in the 17th minute. Dinh Xuan Tien was the one who stole the ball in front of the penalty area and shot a beautiful shot with his right foot, but unfortunately the ball hit the point between horizontal bar and vertical columns.
The opportunities of SLNA became the goal at 22nd minute. From the free kick spot, Nguyen Quang Vinh intended to make a high shot into the penalty area and drew a beautiful curve to send the ball dangerously high, giving U.21 SLNA a 1-0 lead.
In the 37th minute, from a pass returned of teammate from the second point, Quang Vinh in an empty position had a good opportunity to score a double. However, the player wearing shirt number 18 shot too hard, sending the ball over the bar to the regret of many SLNA fans present at Thanh Hoa stadium. The most dangerous situation for U.21 PVF-CAND was Nguyen Gia Bao’s close-range header, but the goal was denied by goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet’s excellent reflexes.
In the second half, U.21 PVF-CAND suddenly played well. In the 65th minute, from a corner on the left wing, Nguyen Phuong Nam appeared in column 2 and headed the ball into the far corner to level the score at 1-1 for U.21 PVF-CAND. In the 71st minute, U.21 PVF-CAND almost had a 2-1 lead, but unfortunately Phung Quang Tu’s shot hit the post. 1-1 was also the final score after 90 minutes of official play and the two teams had to take a penalty shootout.
On penalties, U.21 PVF-CAND won 5-4 against U.2 SLNA. Thereby, U.21 PVF-CAND was crowned the national U.21 playground championship for the first time.
