The women’s team overcomes the harshness of the summer weather
Entering the final week of training before heading to Japan for their training camp, the national women’s team is focusing on physical conditioning combined with technical and tactical drills to prepare for the upcoming friendly matches.
After one week training with the national women’s team, Vietnamese-Canadian player Nguyễn Hoàng Nam Mi openly shared about her training experience. “The weather in Hanoi is entering a hot spell, so I have to try much harder and am gradually adapting. I find that playing football in Vietnam is faster and more skillful compared to Canada. With the support of the senior players, I am personally learning a lot from them and the coaching staff’s guidance—such as the need to pass the ball faster and stronger, as required by Head Coach Mai Đức Chung.”
Regarding post-training recovery, Nam Mi said that ice baths and stretching are very beneficial and help reduce the risk of injury.
Playing alongside members of the Ho Chi Minh City women’s club when she first came to Vietnam, Nam Mi said she has become quite close with players like Huỳnh Như, Tuyết Ngân, and Phương Thảo. The Vietnamese-Canadian player also revealed that she often communicates in English with Huỳnh Như whenever she doesn’t understand Vietnamese.
When asked about her desire to have a long-term career with the Vietnam national women’s team, Nam Mi shared, “I really enjoy playing football in Vietnam, but I need to finish my university studies first. I will return to Canada in August to complete my graduation, and then come back to Vietnam to continue playing.”
“In Vietnam, my family—including my grandparents and uncles—a lot of them have been very supportive. Of course, sometimes I miss my parents and younger brother in Canada, so we often call and chat,” Nam Mi happily shared. She also found it interesting that while people in Canada like having tanned skin, girls in Vietnam are afraid of getting dark. She added that the sun here is quite strong, so she has to be careful and always wears long-sleeved shirts whenever she goes out to training.
According to the plan, the national women’s team, consisting of 26 players, will depart for their training camp in Japan in the early morning of June 8. During their stay, the Vietnam women’s team is expected to play three friendly matches against local women’s clubs.
