AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers – Group D: Vietnam 1-0 Hong Kong, China

Ngo Hai Yen scored the winning goal as Vietnam booked their place in the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ China 2026 after defeating Hong Kong, China 1-0 in their Qualifiers Group D tie on Friday.

Both teams came into the tie having registered convincing wins against Guam but it was Vietnam who dominated the opening 30 minutes but were unable to find the breakthrough against a resilient Hong Kong, China defence.
The hosts should have taken the lead in the 12th minute but Nguyen Duong Phuong Nghi fired her volley over the bar after Hong Kong, China keeper Wong Hiu Yau Hazel spilled a save.
Vietnam kept up the pressure with Tran Thi An testing Wong from distance, while Nguyen Duong Phuong Nghi saw her soft header foiled by the Hong Kong, China custodian in the 20th minute.
Wong was kept busy throughout the half and was at her best again at the half-hour mark when she kept out Le Thi Hong Thai to keep the match level going into the break.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 66th minute after Hai Yen cut past two markers before slotting home into the bottom left corner to seal Vietnam the win and qualification into the Finals.
