Vietnam Futsal team sets off for Thailand, kicking off 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship campaign

On the morning of March 30, the Vietnam national futsal team departed for Thailand to compete in the 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship, which will take place from April 6 to 12 in Nonthaburi.

Prior to departure, Head Coach Diego Giustozzi trimmed the squad to 15 players. According to the plan, the coaching staff will continue to evaluate and finalize the official 14-player roster one day before the opening match.

In this year’s tournament, the Vietnam national futsal team is placed in Group A alongside Myanmar, Timor-Leste, and the hosts, Thailand. Among them, Thailand continues to be regarded as the toughest opponent in the group and a leading candidate for the championship title.

To prepare for the tournament, the Vietnam national futsal team has been training in Ho Chi Minh City since March 16, implementing a program focused on enhancing physical fitness, perfecting technical and tactical aspects, and evaluating the squad.

Sharing his vision for building the team, Head Coach Diego Giustozzi stated that the coaching staff is gradually rejuvenating the squad to meet the long-term objectives of Vietnamese futsal. “We must give opportunities to young players. For instance, Thac Hieu performed well for the U19 national team. We have about two years to prepare for the 2028 AFC Futsal Asian Cup, with the primary goal of securing a spot in the World Cup. Therefore, this is the right time for young talents to step up, test themselves, and be honed within the national team environment,” said Coach Diego Giustozzi.
