Conferring the title of Labor Hero upon Head Coach Mai Đức Chung

On the morning of September 25 in Hanoi, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism solemnly held the 4th Patriotic Emulation Congress. At the Congress, Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long conferred the title of Labor Hero upon Head Coach Mai Đức Chung.

According to Decision No. 149/QĐ-CTN signed on January 24, 2025 by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Head Coach Mai Đức Chung was honored with the title of “Labor Hero” in recognition of his outstanding achievements in creative work, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.

At the Congress, Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Văn Hùng presented the title of Labor Hero and flowers to Head Coach Mai Đức Chung. Mr. Trần Quốc Tuấn, President of the Vietnam Football Federation, was also present to congratulate the coach.

Sharing his emotions at the event, Head Coach Mai Đức Chung expressed: “Today is a truly momentous day for me. In my lifetime, I never dared to think that I would receive the nation’s highest honor. I am deeply moved! I am sincerely grateful to the Party, the Government, ministries and agencies, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Sports Administration, the Vietnam Football Federation, and all football supporters at home and abroad — especially the Women’s National Team, who have supported me tremendously over the years to achieve today’s success.”

Head Coach Mai Đức Chung affirmed that this honor will serve as a great source of motivation for him to continue his dedication to Vietnamese football: “With everything I have today, I always remind myself to work harder, to give my utmost so that together with the team members, we can achieve even greater success worthy of this title.”

Coach Mai Đức Chung is a veteran manager who has led the Vietnam women’s national team to remarkable achievements, including eight SEA Games gold medals (1997, 2003, 2005, 2017, 2019, 2021–2022, 2023), the 2019 AFF Women’s Championship title, fourth place at the 2014 Asian Games, fifth place at the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, and most notably, qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

Previously, Coach Chung also enjoyed success with men’s football, having served as caretaker of the Vietnam men’s national team during a challenging period, and guiding Becamex Bình Dương FC to the 2009 AFC Cup semifinals.

In 2025, Coach Mai Đức Chung will continue to lead the Vietnam women’s national team in the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers, the AFF Women’s Championship, and the 2025 SEA Games.
