Mr. Winston Lee – AFF Secretary General: The success of Vietnamese football is a shared pride of Southeast Asian football
Attending the 2025 Annual Congress of the Vietnam Football Federation, Mr. Winston Lee, Secretary General of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), shared his views and extended his congratulations to Vietnamese football on a highly successful year of competition.

Mr. Winston Lee stated: “I am very honoured to be in Vietnam today. I would like to congratulate Vietnamese football on an impressive start to 2025 with the ASEAN AMEC Cup title, followed by the ASEAN U23 Championship in mid-year, and ending the year with the SEA Games gold medal.
It can be affirmed that 2025 has been a highly successful year for Vietnamese football. This success has come thanks to the attention and guidance of the State leadership, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Sports Administration, as well as the strong support and companionship of football clubs and member organisations. It is also a shared achievement of the Vietnamese people—those who always show great love and passion for football. We have every right to be proud of these accomplishments.
The results achieved today are clear evidence of a process of persistent accumulation and the right development orientation of Vietnamese football over the years. Notably, in 2025, as many as seven Vietnamese national teams qualified for the final rounds of AFC competitions—an important milestone reflecting the continuous efforts of Vietnamese football.
In addition, the fact that three representatives of Vietnamese football are serving on FIFA committees further demonstrates the increasingly recognised role and position of Vietnamese football on the international stage. Within this overall success, we highly appreciate the role and significant contributions of the President of the Vietnam Football Federation, Mr. Trần Quốc Tuấn.
The success of Vietnamese football is not only a source of pride for Vietnam, but also a shared pride of Southeast Asian football. We are very proud of the achievements that Vietnamese football has attained and sincerely wish you early qualification for the World Cup.
