VFF’s Vice President Tran Anh Tu met with and encouraged U20 Vietnam and assigned them their tasks
On the morning of September 13th, Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation Tran Anh Tu, representing the VFF Standing Committee, met with, encouraged, and assigned tasks to the U20 Vietnam for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.
During the meeting with the coaching staff and members of the U20 Vietnam, Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation, Tran Anh Tu, emphasized that Vietnamese football has consistently participated in the final stages of continental tournaments at various levels over the years. This is in line with the VFF’s goal of developing and enhancing national teams to align Vietnamese football with the standards of Asian and global football. He also highlighted the significant investment by the VFF in providing the best conditions for teams to train and prepare before international competitions. Therefore, the objective for the U20 Vietnam in the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers is to strive to secure a spot in the finals. “Setting the goal of qualifying for the finals is not just about achieving results; more importantly, participating in the finals provides players the opportunity to compete against top teams in the continent, which is essential for their significant progress,” said Tran Anh Tu.
To achieve this goal, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has initiated the U20 Vietnam national team’s plans well in advance, including overseas training camps and participation in international friendly matches to enhance the players’ skills and experience. Head Coach Hứa Hiền Vinh noted that, despite facing some difficulties due to weather conditions during the preparation phase for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers, as well as not having all the top U20 players available due to some needing to stay with their clubs for the new season preparations, the team is fundamentally ready to enter the competition and work towards achieving their objectives.
Another advantage for Head Coach Hứa Hiền Vinh and his team is that the Vietnam U20 national team will play their matches at home. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has been entrusted by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) with hosting the matches of Group A. This presents a valuable opportunity for the young players to showcase their skills and resilience in front of a large and supportive audience of Vietnamese fans.
In addition, for this crucial training camp of the Vietnam U20 national team, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has strengthened the team by appointing Nguyễn Quốc Hội, a VFF Standing Committee member, as the team manager, and experienced coach Phan Thanh Hùng as the team leader and technical advisor to the coaching staff. Phan Thanh Hùng is recognized as one of Vietnam’s top football strategists, with a track record of achievements both as an assistant and head coach at various youth levels and in the V-League. With his extensive experience and deep understanding of Vietnamese football, Phan Thanh Hùng is expected to work with the U20 coaching staff to develop effective strategies and help the team achieve their goal of directly qualifying for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup finals.
The 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers feature 45 teams, divided into 5 groups of 5 teams and 5 groups of 4 teams. The top team from each group, along with the 5 best second-placed teams, will qualify for the finals alongside the host country, China. In this round of qualifiers, the Vietnam U20 national team is in Group A, along with Syria, Bhutan, Guam, and Bangladesh. The matches in Group A will be hosted by Vietnam and will take place at Lach Tray Stadium in Hai Phong from September 21 to September 29, 2024.
According to the schedule, Head Coach Hứa Hiền Vinh and his team will travel to Hai Phong on September 17.
