Vietnam women’s national under-20 football team defeat Hwacheon KSPO WFC 2–0 in friendly match

The Vietnam women’s national under-20 football team secured a 2–0 victory over the first team of Hwacheon KSPO WFC of South Korea in a friendly match during their training camp in China, as part of their preparations for the 2026 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup finals.

From the opening minutes, both teams entered the match at a high tempo while maintaining well-organized play. Facing a technically strong opponent, the Vietnam women’s national under-20 football team remained focused, kept good spacing between the lines and showed determination in duels.

After a goalless first half, Vietnam created the breakthrough early in the second half. In the 51st minute (the 6th minute of the second half), from a corner kick, Khanh Vy rose high to head the ball accurately into the net, giving the team in red the lead.

After taking the lead, the players of head coach Okiyama Masahiko continued to maintain a disciplined approach and applied pressure on the opponent’s defense. From an effective pressing situation by the forwards of the Vietnam women’s national under-20 football team, an opposing defender made a careless back pass that caused confusion for the goalkeeper, allowing Vietnam to score another goal and seal a 2–0 victory.

Assessing the team’s performance, coach Okiyama Masahiko said: “Against Hwacheon KSPO WFC, the team delivered a good performance and won 2–0. The players remained focused, disciplined and showed strong determination throughout the match. However, there are still many aspects that we need to continue improving, and the whole team is working hard every day to make progress. This victory will help the players gain more confidence as we head toward the tournament and our highest objectives.”

During the match, the team not only maintained a solid defensive organization but also actively regained possession to launch effective counterattacks, gradually adapting well to the pace of the game.

As for the opponent, Hwacheon KSPO WFC is a strong side known for its pace, individual technique and sharp short-passing combinations. Nevertheless, with strong team spirit and determination, the Vietnam women’s national under-20 football team secured a positive result.

According to the training schedule, the Vietnam women’s national under-20 football team will play one more friendly match against a women’s club from China on 14 March to further refine their tactics and match fitness.

After concluding the training camp, the team will return to Vietnam on 15 March and move their training base to Ho Chi Minh City to continue the final phase of preparations before departing for the tournament. During the two-week sprint period, the players under head coach Okiyama Masahiko are expected to play two additional quality friendlies against the Uzbekistan women’s national under-20 football team on 24 March and 27 March.
