Vietnam Women’s U17 booked their places in Round 2 of the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024 Qualifiers
Vietnam booked their places in Round 2 of the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024 Qualifiers with resounding wins on Wednesday over Uzbekistan.
Having defeated Palestine 5-0 in their opening match, Vietnam only needed a draw to advance as the Group C winners but went on the hunt for goals from the first blow of the referee’s whistle.
Uzbekistan, who had edged Palestine 2-1, suffered an early setback with Ngan Thi Thanh Hieu giving Vietnam a 10th minute lead.
Uzbekistan tried to fight back but the equaliser proved elusive and their task was made harder when Truong Thi Hoai Trinh doubled Vietnam’s advantage in the 72nd minute.
Victory was sealed by Nguyen Thi Thuong’s 76th minute goal and Vietnam can now set their sights on the next round of the Qualifiers.
On the other hand, Philippines finished with a perfect record as well after beating Lebanon 2-0 in Group G.
Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Bangladesh, meanwhile, opened their Groups A, B and C campaigns with wins over Northern Mariana Islands, Mongolia and Turkmenistan respectively. There were opening victories for Korea Republic, India and Islamic Republic of Iran as well in Groups E, F and H respectively.
