FIFA representative praises the development and strategic vision of Vietnamese football
At the 2025 Annual Congress of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), held on the morning of December 26 at the VFF headquarters, Mrs. Gayathry Chandra Mohan, FIFA Director of Member Associations Development, shared positive remarks and highly praised the strong development of Vietnamese football in recent years.
Mrs. Gayathry Chandra Mohan expressed her strong impression of the progress achieved by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) in building and developing Vietnamese football. In particular, at the 33rd SEA Games, Vietnam’s U22 team produced an outstanding victory over the host nation to win the SEA Games gold medal—an achievement she described as highly impressive. The FIFA representative expressed her hope that Vietnamese football will continue to achieve further success in the future.
Assessing the development orientation, Mrs. Gayathry Chandra Mohan noted that the VFF possesses a very systematic and robust development plan, especially at the youth national team levels. According to her, Vietnamese football has demonstrated consistent and effective leadership across all levels, creating a solid foundation for long-term development. Currently, Vietnam’s men’s national team is ranked 107th in the FIFA World Rankings, and she expressed confidence that, with the current momentum, Vietnamese football will soon return to the world’s Top 100.
Mrs. Gayathry Chandra Mohan also emphasised the VFF’s prominent leadership role within Southeast Asia, stating that this effective leadership has generated clear and positive impacts on the national teams. At the regional level, Vietnamese football is currently ranked second in Southeast Asia in the FIFA World Rankings and is not far from challenging for the top position. On the Asian stage, although there is still a long journey ahead, the FIFA representative affirmed that with the existing plans and continuous efforts, Vietnamese football is progressing faster than expected.
She further praised the role of VFF President Trần Quốc Tuấn, who also serves as Chairman of the AFC Competitions Committee. According to her, this is clear evidence of Mr. Trần Quốc Tuấn’s stature and important role in Asian football as well as globally. His leadership has created tangible value and made significant contributions to the recent successes of Vietnam’s national teams.
The FIFA representative also stated that FIFA always pays close attention to and makes substantial investments in Vietnamese football, particularly through the FIFA Forward Programme—an initiative introduced and implemented by FIFA President Gianni Infantino since 2016. Through this programme, many practical and meaningful projects have been and continue to be carried out in Vietnam.
