Hoang Duc, Huynh Nhu and Ho Van Y won the Vietnam Golden Ball Award 2021

February 16, at the Opera House, the Vietnam Golden Ball 2021 Award Ceremony organized by Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper took place extremely excitingly and impressively. With the contributions to the Vietnam men’s national team in 2021, midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc was awarded the Vietnam Golden Ball title for the first time. In the women’s title, striker Huynh Nhu received the award for the third time in a row. Goalkeeper Ho Van Y received the futsal Golden Ball for the first time.

Attending the Vietnam Golden Ball Awards 2020 there were Mr. Phan Nguyen Nhu Khue, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Propaganda Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee; Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Mai Ba Hung – Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Nguyen Tan Phong, Standing Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association.

On the side of the sports affairs, there were Mrs. Le Thi Hoang Yen, Deputy Director of the General Department of Sports and Sports; Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, Acting President of Vietnam Football Federation; Mr. Cao Van Chong, Vice President of Vietnam Football Federation; Mr. Tran Anh Tu, Standing Member of Vietnam Football Federation, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation; Mr. Le Hoai Anh, General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation.

On the side of SGGP Newspaper, there were Mr. Tang Huu Phong, Editor-in-Chief of SGGP Newspaper; Mr. Nguyen Nhat, Permanent Deputy Editor-in-Chief of SGGP Newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Vietnam Golden Ball Award 2021.

There were also the presence of two special guests, Miss Universe Vietnam H’Hen Nie and the most popular Miss World Vietnam Tourism Tuong Vy.

In the voting for the Men’s Golden Ball, with 466 points, midfielder Hoang Duc surpassed Quang Hai (372 points) and Tien Linh (205 points) to become the 18th player in the history of winning the Golden Ball. Winning the Silver Ball title is Nguyen Quang Hai, unfortunately, due to being infected with Covid-19, Quang Hai was not present. Winning the bronze ball is player Nguyen Tien Linh.

The race to win the Golden Ball in the female and futsal categories is not surprising, as striker Huynh Nhu and goalkeeper Ho Van Y both received more points than the remaining candidates. As a result, Huynh Nhu owned the Women’s Golden Ball for the third time in a row, and was the fourth time in her career, equaling Doan Thi Kim Chi’s record. She got 554 points, more than Pham Hai Yen (201 points) and Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy (140 points).

Meanwhile, Ho Van Y received the futsal Golden Ball for the first time after his excellent performance in the Lithuanian 2021 futsal World Cup, bringing Vietnam to the round of 16 for the second time. 2021 is also the second time that Ho Van Y has entered the top 10 best goalkeepers in the world. Followed Ho Van Y is the Silver Ball Chau Doan Phat (235 points) and pivo Nguyen Minh Tri (147 points) receiving the Bronze Ball.

This year, the Golden Ball Award did not award young players and the Organizing Committee interacted with two young players Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha (women’s football) and Nhan Gia Hung (men’s futsal).

Besides the categories including Golden Ball, Silver Ball, Bronze Ball for male, female and futsal players, the Organizing Committee honored coaches Mai Duc Chung, Vietnam – women’s football team; coach Park Hang-seo – Vietnam national team, coach Pham Minh Giang – Vietnam Futsal team.

The year 2021 is considered “extremely special” for Vietnamese football, when the difficulty caused by the Covid-19 epidemic has delayed many domestic and international events, but fortunately, there was a good ending. Those are the achievement of the futsal team participating in the Futsal World Cup; Vietnam U22 team won tickets to attend the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2022; Although the men’s football team was not successful in the AFF Cup, the team made a splash when it reached the 3rd qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup in Asia. Finally, the women’s team qualified for the 2022 Asian Cup Finals, thereby setting the stage for the feat of winning tickets to the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
