Qualifiers – Group D: Vietnam 6-1 Mongolia; Korea Republic 5-1 Nepal

Ulaanbaatar: Vietnam and Korea Republic opened their AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Thailand 2024 Qualifiers campaigns in resounding fashion after sailing past Mongolia and Nepal respectively in Group D at the Buyant Ukhaa Sport Palace on Saturday.

Vietnam 6-1 Mongolia
Vietnam, who finished fourth in 2016, got off to a bright start with Nguyen Thinh Phat opening their account in the ninth minute.
Mongolia, playing in their fifth qualifying campaign, conceded another two minutes later following Nguyen Minh Tri’s effort.
Vietnam further tightened their grip in the second half when Nhan Gia Hung added their third in the 21st minute before Nguyen Thinh Phat netted his second a minute later.
Mongolia reduced the deficit moments later through Altantulga Pagamsuren but it was not enough to spark a comeback as Ngo Ngoc Son (27th) and captain Pham Duc Hoa (31st) sealed the emphatic victory.
Korea Republic 5-1 Nepal
It took the Korea Republic four minutes to find the back of the net courtesy of Lee Han-wool’s strike.
Shin Jong-hoon then scored in the 10th and 19th minutes to give Korea Republic a healthy cushion going into the break.
Nepal tried to force their way back with Sumit Shrestha finding the net in the 21st minute only for Shin to turn on the power, scoring in the 31st and 35th (penalty) minutes to seal the three points.
Korea Republic meet Mongolia, while Vietnam face Nepal on Matchday Two.
