The Vietnam futsal team has officially entered the final stage of preparation for the 33rd SEA Games
November 10, the Vietnam futsal team regrouped in Ho Chi Minh City, officially entering the final training phase in preparation for the 33rd SEA Games, which will take place this December in Thailand.
In this training camp, head coach Diego Giustozzi continues to place his trust in key players who have proven their ability and international experience, thereby maintaining a stable core for the national squad. The team also welcomes the return of two experienced alas, Trần Thái Huy and Ngô Ngọc Sơn. Both, along with Nguyễn Minh Trí and Phạm Đức Hòa, were instrumental in Vietnam’s historic journey to the FIFA Futsal World Cup final round in 2016.
However, according to the latest update, ala Ngô Ngọc Sơn will miss the 33rd SEA Games due to personal reasons. Coach Giustozzi has called up young talent Nguyễn Hoàng Quân from Thái Sơn Nam Ho Chi Minh City as his replacement.
Notably, coach Giustozzi has also handed an opportunity to newcomer Nguyễn Tiến Hùng, a promising young ala from the Thái Sơn Nam Ho Chi Minh City academy. Recently honored as the Best Player of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City U20 Futsal Open, Tiến Hùng is expected to add healthy competition and bring fresh energy to the national team during its preparations for the 33rd SEA Games.
Before this training camp, the Vietnam futsal team showcased impressive form at the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers, winning all three matches against Lebanon, China, and Hong Kong (China). The team topped Group E with a perfect record, scoring 20 goals and conceding only 3.
This remarkable achievement is the result of thorough preparation and long-term investment by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). Earlier, from mid-March to early April, the team played a series of four high-quality international friendlies — winning twice against Saudi Arabia (2-1, 3-2), and recording one win and one draw against Kazakhstan (4-1, 2-2). These positive results provided coach Giustozzi’s players with a strong psychological boost and reinforced their confidence as they aim to qualify for the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup final round and prepare for the 33rd SEA Games.
According to the plan, the Vietnam futsal team will train in Ho Chi Minh City until December 10, 2025, before departing for Thailand to compete at the Games. The men’s futsal event at the 33rd SEA Games will feature five teams — Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar — playing in a round-robin format to determine the final rankings.
With a well-balanced squad, strong determination, and thorough preparation, the Vietnam futsal team aims to finish among the top two and further affirm its position on the regional stage.
