The Vietnam women’s national team begin first training session in preparation for the 33rd SEA Games
On October 21, the Vietnam women’s national team officially held their first training session of their third training camp in 2025, in preparation for the 33rd SEA Games, which will take place in Thailand this December. The team is currently training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre in Hanoi.
On the first day, all 26 players named in the call-up list gathered on time, settled into their accommodation, and began their first training session in the afternoon. The session drew significant attention from the media and press.
Speaking before the session, head coach Mai Đức Chung said: “At present, all 26 players have reported for training. However, some coaches and players from the Ho Chi Minh City women’s club have not yet joined the team as they are preparing for the AFC Women’s Club Championship taking place in November. In the coming weeks, the team will continue training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre, with plans to play three friendly matches between now and November 20.”
According to the plan, from November 20, the Vietnam women’s national team will travel to Japan for a training camp, during which they are expected to play three friendly matches against club teams selected by the Japan Football Association (JFA) to match the coaching staff’s technical objectives. After the training camp, the team will return to Ho Chi Minh City to acclimatize to weather conditions similar to those in Thailand before heading to the 33rd SEA Games.
Head coach Mai Đức Chung added: “The team has had many opportunities to gain experience against strong opponents such as France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and most recently Australia’s youth women’s team at the ASEAN Championship. Although our players still have limitations in physique and fitness, they possess great fighting spirit and resilience. During this period, the coaching staff will focus on enhancing physical conditioning and tactical drills to improve pressing ability.”
In terms of personnel, several notable changes have been made. Veteran midfielder Tuyết Dung has officially begun her coaching career at the local level and will not take part in this training camp. Meanwhile, key players such as Huỳnh Như and Phạm Hải Yến remain on the roster, having met the required fitness and performance standards.
Notably, several young players have received their first call-ups to the national team to fill the gaps left by departing veterans. Among them, Thanh Hiếu and Trần Nhật Lan are highly rated by the coaching staff for their potential and are expected to quickly adapt to the team’s overall playing style.
On the other hand, three players — Thái Thị Thảo, Dương Thị Vân, and Ngân Thị Vạn Sự — are currently training separately as they recover from injuries and await their return to full fitness.
The Vietnam women’s national team is aiming to defend their SEA Games gold medal while also building long-term preparations for upcoming international tournaments in 2026.
