During the two-week training in Japan, in addition to the training curriculum on techniques, tactics and physical strength, the U17 Vietnam had 3 friendly matches that were highly appreciated by the coaching staff for their quality. Those was against Kaiseikan High School on May 25 (won 3-1), against U18 Honda FC on May 28 (won 3-1) and against Tokoda University Recruitment on May 31 (draw 3-3).

According to the original plan, the team also had another match against Shizuoka University on June 2. However, due to unfavorable weather conditions (heavy rain), this match was cancelled.

After returning home, the team of coach Hoang Anh Tuan will be stationed in Ba Ria Vung Tau to practice. It is expected that the U17 Vietnam will have a “rehearsal” match against the U17 Yemen on June 10 before traveling to Thailand for the 2023 AFC U17 Asian Cup on June 13.

According to the draw results, the U17 Vietnam is in Group D along with Japan, India and Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, host Thailand is in Group A along with Yemen, Malaysia and Laos. Group B is a race between Korea, Iran, Afghanistan and Qatar, while Group C is a competition of Tajikistan, Australia, Saudi Arabia and China.

Teams compete in a round-robin format for each group. The first and second teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The four winning teams in the quarterfinals will advance to the semi-finals and will also qualify for the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup in October.
